Frequently Asked Questions

How does hypnosis work?

Spokane hypnosis
Imagine a soccer goalkeeper guarding the net and the hypnotherapist is a forward attempting to kick soccer balls past the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper is the conscious mind or critic that analyzes every thought and the net is the subconscious mind which is a storehouse of information. Even though a lot of that information is no longer relevant the critic still uses it to make decisions. Kind of like the sentimental person with a house full of junk they just can’t let go of, the goalkeeper is preventing new information from getting past her. The hypnotist is the forward tasked with delivering new messages to the subconscious mind. The forward uses various techniques from straight kicks to bending the ball to get around the goalkeeper, this is akin to using direct and indirect suggestion to slip the message by the conscious mind. In the case of hypnosis with good technique the goalkeeper or conscious mind will soon get bored and no longer choose to see the messages as a threat. It relaxes and supportive messages are delivered that help clients to make changes that they may have been resistant to. The old story that supported the non-productive behaviors is now changing over time to support new ones that are productive and in line with the client’s intention. The soccer goalkeeper will also tire eventually and more soccer balls will slip by her.

What can I expect in my first session?

Hypnosis works for quitting smoking
Expect nothing and simply be curious! Think about this process you are about to engage in as an adventure or quest. The first thing we will do is create a map of where we are heading using the information gathered in your Activation Kit and additional insights discovered during our white board strategy session. I will use this to create a digitally recorded personal hypnosis session. With background music, binaural beats and the light and sound machine your adventure continues. Simply allow a level of relaxation to take hold and you are there. You may be aware of every word or you may slip in and out of a light dream state or feel lightness or heaviness or none of this as the effects vary for each person and each time you do this. Repetition is the key the more you listen the easier it gets. Remember all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and each of us goes in and out of a trance state many times each day.

 Is Hypnosis a “Magical Cure”?

Hypnosis works for weight loss
The answer is no it’s not! Though you may experience dramatic shifts as clients often do, it is the preparation of the ground on a conscious as well as subconscious level that will reinforce and deepen that change. It can be viewed as a cycle that brings together both the awareness and the motivation to tackle the very things we were resistant to. Once engaged this cycle begins to build momentum towards the desired changed.

How many sessions will I need?

Hypnosis works for phobias
Think long term and allow yourself to be surprised! Rather than thinking I am here to lose X number of pounds and I can’t wait to get there. Focus on how much more aware you are becoming and how this is affecting so many unexpected areas of your life. A young lady walked into my office, greeting me with tears in her eyes, a year and a half after losing 100 Ibs. She came to thank me for believing in her and then informed me that it was never about the weight. She just felt so much better about herself. She said that she had gotten married the previous year and experience the satisfaction of a recent promotion at work. It was really the internal change that made the difference. She was living a very different life, that only a few years before could not even have imagined. She spent about a year working with me and I’ll bet you would agree that it was time well spent.
