We may set goals with the best of intentions and find we quit after having barely gotten started. We in effect run out of gas! This often happens at about 6 weeks and leaves us feeling even more frustrated. That is why breaking the 6 week barrier is so important. It is a resistance point that feels very real and there is a good reason for it. This resistance is supported by unconscious behavior patterns that we managed to hold at bay for a few weeks or months by imposing new patterns over top of them. These new patterns are usually a form of regimen that we grudgingly adhere to for awhile.
You know the drill, prepackaged foods, fitness videos, diet supplements and shakes. None of these is wrong and though they may even get us to our goal they are usually not sustainable. Okay you say, I get this so what does work?
Behavior change coaches assist people in discovering tools and resources within themselves that they then use to create their desired change. These are not imposed externally though nothing is restricted. One thing that does work is the Intention and practice of bringing awareness to our unconscious behavior patterns! This empowers us to make new choices and these then create new patterns. We are in effect rewiring the brain to begin to make these new choices permanent.
A unified approach to change would encompass three things. The first is strong intention and this is not to be confused with mere goal setting. The second must be strong action applied consistently over time in line with our intention. Lastly, a method of tracking these actions and checking in to see that they remain aligned with our intention.
It is this practice over time that serves to make these changes sustainable. One of the most effective tools used to support this change process is hypnosis. Listening to powerful processes that supports our intention on a subconscious level speeds the practice of making these more productive routines easier to maintain. This change having been arrived at through strong intention, unfolded on both a conscious and subconscious level in time creates a lifestyle change that endures. The sense of completion that comes from this is priceless!
